Five people are in the hospital tonight after an accident in Charlottesville.

Police said the driver of a Suzuki Jeep was going northbound on McIntyre Road and tried to make a left into the Staples parking lot. At the same time, a green car was going southbound and the two vehicles slammed into each other.

Authorities believe it may have been the result of someone simply trying to be nice by letting the Suzuki make that turn.

"Someone in that stopped lane, in an effort to help the Suzuki could have possibly caused a bit of harm for the Suzuki. [We] try to encourage people, in an effort to help, you shouldn't really ask [other vehicles] to cross that lane of traffic," explained Sgt. Phil Brown.

All five people were taken to the UVa Medical Center with injuries, which are not believed to be serious.
