Just like what the ice park did for the west end of the mall, officials have hoped since the opening to see the same trend near the pavilion.
"It's also going to bring and solidify the east end of the mall and really help create the mall as a vibrant entity from one end of the mall to the other. I'm excited," said Mayor David Brown of Charlottesville.
This event brought large crowds to the usually quieter area on it's first night in the new place.
"I think it's going to bring a ton more people down. Give you plenty more to do, more businesses on this end, more activity and life down here at this time of night," said Kelley Whitaker who attended Friday's After Five at the new Pavilion.
"It's beautiful, it's like a seashell. I'm telling you, it's like a breath of fresh air," said Keith Rodgers who also came to Friday's After Five.
New businesses are already opening on the east end and officials expect more in the future.
The Nighthawks are scheduled to perform the first Friday in August.
