Albemarle County officers cuffed a member of their own department and police are charging the cop with domestic assault.

Alan Reid is a 6-year veteran cop of the Albemarle County Police Department, and a school resource officer for Albemarle High School. On Saturday October 8, around 8 a.m. he was arrested for assaulting his wife.

Police said it happened at a residence in Key West. Reid was involved in an altercation with his wife and was arrested shortly after the incident and taken into custody. Reid was charged with domestic assault and obstructing the property rights of others. His wife also filed for a restraining order against him.

Police said Reid was not on duty at the time. Since the incident, Reid has been placed on administrative leave and is suspended with pay until an internal investigation is complete.

Reid has been released from jail and his hearing date is scheduled for Monday Oct. 17.
