For Charlottesville elementary school students, the first day of school is Monday, Aug. 22. Today several schools held an open house to give kids a chance to meet their teachers, and to see their new classrooms.

Thanks to First United Methodist Church this year all of the kids at Jackson-Via will have everything they need to learn.

"One of the cities churches adopted our school and decided to set the goal to put together all the backpacks with supplies by grade level for every child who might need one and they got very excited in the process," said ElizaBeth McCay, PhD., the Principal of Jackson-Via Elementary School.

One-hundred-seventy-five backpacks full of folders, books, and paper were donated to the children.
