Record numbers for the United Way this year as they provide parents in the area with child care help.
The organization's Child Care Scholarship Program was able to help over 300 local children. The program offsets the full cost of daycare so low income families can work and still get safe and dependable care for their children.
Over a half a million dollars was distributed.
"We've been doing it for over 30 years. It's great to have a record year, but we're happy to be here year in and year out helping families," said VP of Community Initiatives, Jon Nafziger.
The average annual cost of childcare in the area is between $6,000 and $8,000, more than tuition at UVa.
Right now the United Way does not have any more funds for the program. If you'd like to donate, you can contact them at 972-1701.
