You can find internet sites that advertise free credit reports all over the web, but are they really free?
Many of the sites will give you a free history report on your credit, but often times, the information is limited and it usually comes with a catch.
Bill Hopkinson, owner of Charlottesville Bureau Credits says some imposter sites will use the term free report in order to lure you in and when they get your information weeks and months down the road you may see additional charges on your credit card.
By law you can receive a free credit report once a year or within 30 days of being denied credit.
However, the only website accredited by the three major credit repositories is www.annualcreditreport.com.
At this site you can actually get your credit report for free.
You can also get a copy of the proper free credit report request form by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope with a note to:
