The response has been tremendous from people wanting to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
In just four days, the United Way Thomas Jefferson area has filled an entire warehouse with household goods and furniture.
Now they are teaming up with local agencies to make it easier for people to help. The United Way is offering one phone number where local residents can find out information about all of the area’s relief efforts.
"Folks were calling various offices throughout our community, and we just stepped back and said 'why don't we have everybody call one number, and then that way we are able to do a better job of forwarding those folks to the appropriate follow-up'," said United Way Spokesman Jim Fitzgerald.
This number provides information about all the services available in this region, and is 434-972-1703. Victims of Hurricane Katrina in need of services can also call that number for help.
