Martin Straume will appear for a preliminary hearing. Trying to run over a student is just one of the many other charges Straume faces, including harassing a student, threatening phones calls, and Emails. Currently Straume is out on a $3,500 bond.
According to a Charlottesville Police report, the victim says she had reason to fear for her life. She told police in those reports that, "He wants for me to die," and, "he wishes me great bodily and emotional harm." She also says she went to Straume's office to try to calm him down and that's when he tried to run over her with his car.
We were able to speak to the alleged victim's friend by phone. "He has admitted to many of the charges in Emails and to the Dean of the Medical School, and Police were very concerned about the violent nature of the harassment and that the violence was clearly escalating."
The judge will set a trial date at the hearing.
