With gas prices still hovering around $3, one particular item is flying off of car store shelves. Some stores say they've seen a huge spike in sales for gas cap locks over the past few weeks.
Advance Auto Parts along Route 29 has run out of the most commonly used ones. According to experts, it's normal for people to take extra measures in times like these.
"Price of gas has gotten to the point where people want to protect their [investment]. It’s unfortunate, but it's now an investment to buy gasoline," said assistant manager at Advance Auto Parts, Scott Easton. "It's not just going out and getting gas and people want to protect it because they're afraid it's going to get stolen."
Store managers say the demand has come down a bit, and they have gotten in another shipment of some of the gas cap locks.
