If you think Black Friday is the biggest shopping day of the year, you're wrong this year. According to Mastercard transaction data, December 23rd is actually the busiest shopping day. Mastercard says the best day to avoid the lines is the Sunday after Thanksgiving. The best time to shop is at 7 p.m., or between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m.
One Target employee was working on Black Friday and disagrees with these records.
"I didn't know that, but for me right now it is [the busiest day]," Shane Borrelli, of Target.
"I disagree. It was very busy today," added shopper Amanda Paul.
"I started at 4:00 this morning and at Best Buy there was 100 people in line before I got there at four," said Theresa Snow, a Target shopper.
"I've never seen the parking lot so full; it's been a little crazy," said Borrelli.
Since early Friday morning, shoppers waited in long lines at crowded stores.
"Standing in line was about 30 to 40 minutes; I probably should have worn better shoes," said Paul.
Mastercard's survey said most shoppers dislike crowds but don't realize the best ways to avoid them. Experts recommend consumers shop early in the season because a third of all shoppers surveyed said this year they will procrastinate.
"I usually buy them last minute because I don't have any money," said Hudson Cole.
