Black Friday was one of the busiest retail shopping days of the year, but today was one of the busiest online shopping days. It is called Cyber Monday, when shoppers return to work and do their buying on the internet.
On the first Monday of the holiday buying season, online shopping is booming, mostly because of the many discounts stores are offering.
Between free shipping, free samples, and free holiday gift wrapping, it's hard to say no.
"With those three promotions people are going to shop with us instead of going to stand in line, it just makes life a lot easier for people," said Ed Williams of Londons Bathecary.
Williams is part owner of Londons Bathecary on Charlottesville's Downtown Mall. He's been in the internet shopping business for eight years, but he's never seen "Cyber Monday" so profitable.
"We're up about 65 percent for the holiday weekend over last year?s holiday weekend, so I don't know if it's just some of our regular business being up, or if it is more people indeed using their high speed Internet at work," said Williams.
Whatever the reason, their selection of 2,300 European soaps, lotions and fragrances that are available online are selling fast.
"It's not just 'Cyber Monday', no, we're definitely having cyber week," said Kethany Powell of Londons Bathecary.
Powell helps pack up and ship out box after box. The amount of boxes they mail each day is huge.
"Today I would venture to guess that we probably have approximately 80 or so," said Powell.
But it's not so shocking to the employees. In fact, 60 percent of their sales comes from people buying online. As long as there are people splurging on European toiletries, they'll be in business.
"It's a little bit cheaper than flying back to London," said Williams.
London's, along with many other online businesses will ship gifts until the last few days before Christmas. That is just another reason why so many people are clicking their way through this holiday season.
