The Fluvanna County sheriff's office is investigating a series of burglaries that occurred over the past several days. Two homes, the Monticello Area Community Action Agency, and the library were all broken into

Between last Tuesday and Monday morning, there was a total of 5 breaking and enterings and thefts in Fluvanna County. Thieves stole everything from pocket change to a refrigerator.

"They came in there," said Marcia Drane, the Fluvanna County Library Director, as she pointed to an open window.

According to Drane, sometime this weekend, the cash drawer attached to the copy machine was stolen.

"Somebody walked off with five pounds of coins but nothing else was disturbed or destroyed," said Drane.

But, damage was done to the Monticello Area Community Action Agency. The air conditioners were knocked out in order to break in. A safe, checkbooks, and $1,000 worth of cash and checks were stolen from the office.

"It's just so devastating that it took place like it did because it seems like somebody that did it knew something about that office," said Bertha Armstrong, the MACAA Director.

Two Fluvanna homes that were under construction were also broken into. A refrigerator, stove, and dishwasher were taken from one of the homes. Along with about $5,000 worth of construction tools that were stolen out of a truck parked in Lake Monticello.

The Fluvanna County Sheriff's Office is still investigating who would commit these crimes last week and why.

"It saddens me, real bad, that persons would want to steal from an agency that's there to help people," said Armstrong.

Authorities did recover the checks that were stolen from MACAA. They were wrapped in a newspaper and dropped off in a mailbox yesterday, but authorities are still looking for answers.

Police ask anyone who may have any information to call Sgt. Roy Brewster at 434-589-8211.
