Former Culpeper Officer Receives Sentence for Manslaughter

May 2, 2013

A former Culpeper police officer who fatally shot an unarmed woman has been sentenced to 36 months.

33 year-old Daniel Harmon-Wright was in court on Thursday, after being convicted of manslaughter and unlawful shooting charges back in January.

Harmon-Wright was responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle in a church parking lot, when he shot 54 year-old Patricia Ann Cook, in February 2012.

He claimed he shot Cook after she attempted to drive away in her vehicle with his arm caught in the window.

A $5,000,000 wrongful death lawsuit filed against Harmon-Wright by Cook's family is still pending.
