A middle school teacher in Locust Grove has been arrested on child pornography charges.

Orange County Sheriff's deputies say they found images of child pornography in Robert Kobman's home in Locust Grove.

Kobman is a technology teacher at Locust Grove Middle School.

"We placed the teacher on administrative leave," said Dr. Robert Grimesey, the superintendent of Orange County Schools, calling it "routine for us in matters of this nature."

Kobman is not allowed at the school, but he will continue to get paid.

Investigators say it does not appear that any of the child porn pictures were of local children, or of Kobman's students.

"In the event that any children come forward and report that they had any adverse reaction or perhaps exposure to any of the information associated with this case, we're going to be very much ready to provide them with any assistance that they need," said Grimesey.

Grimesey sent out a phone message to parents in the entire school district, alerting them that a teacher had been arrested. The message did not specifically mention child pornography charges.

Parents at the school on Wednesday say they received the warning message.

"I know a lot of the teachers here," said Angela Sullivan, the parent of a Locust Grove Middle School student. "So I was kind of shocked. I've never heard of (Kobman)."

"I trust the principal," she continued. "She's very good with the kids. The kids adore her and I think she keeps an eye on everything."

Grimesey says the school district takes precautions to make sure the people they hire are safe.

"They're all subject to criminal background checks and checks with child protective services," he said.

Kobman is being held without bond at the Central Virginia Regional Jail. He faces twenty felony counts.
