Charlottesville has once again finished out a year without any deaths by fire.
Charlottesville has one of the lowest civilian fire death rates in the country.
This year marks the city's 9th consecutive year with no fire deaths.
Fire officials attribute the accomplishment to their fire prevention and education program, building inspections, fire suppression services and their free smoke detector program.
For more information on the free smoke detector program and other public education efforts, visit the Fire Department web site at www.cfdonline.org or call (434) 970-3245.
