An Albemarle landowner has donated nearly 1600 acres to The Nature Conservancy.
The nearly three miles of land known as Castle Hill will remain free from most development. The conservancy says they will restore the forest along Walnut Mountain.
"What they decided to do is give to The Nature Conservancy 380 acres of Walnut Mountain...and put an easement on the remaining portion of the property of 1,200 acres, which will protect this land from development," said Ridge Schuyler, director of the Conservancy?s Piedmont Program.
Schuyler said this forest is one of the best forests remaining in the piedmont of Virginia.
