UVA Police are investigating an alleged sexual assault inside the hospital early this morning. The alleged attack occurred between two maintanence workers that knew each other.
"I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy, what she has been through," said an anonymous family member.
A family member of an alleged sexual assault victim describes the pain his sister-in-law is feeling.
"There is no human that deserves that. Her life now has been switched around because someone had something crazy on their mind," he said.
The alleged attack happened this morning in the early hours on the fourth floor of the UVA Medical Center.
"A University of Virginia Health System Employee reported to University Police that a coworker sexually assaulted her," said Sgt. Melissa Fielding with UVA Police.
According to the anonymous family member, the two crossed paths around 2 a.m. in a non-patient care portion of the building. That's when the man allegedly fondled the woman and then assaulted her. UVA Police say the investigation is ongoing.
"We're in the very preliminary stages of the investigation. As information becomes available we will be releasing it," Fielding said.
This is not a comforting thought for a family searching for answers.
"I just don't understand what's going on. I just want some answers and our family wants some answers," he said.
At this point there have been no arrests in the case. UVA police say they will continue to interview eyewitnesses in order to close the case as quickly as possible. A rape kit has been used in this case, and police are waiting for those results to come in.
