Lawyers Prepare Trial of Greene Co. Triple Homicide Suspect

September 10, 2013

Nearly two-and-a-half years after a triple homicide in Greene County, the case against the suspect is almost ready to move forward.

Lawyers in the Taybronne White case met in court Tuesday morning for a motions hearing to discuss details prior to the trial's start in two weeks.

White faces 11 charges, including three first-degree murder charges, relating to the incident on May 3, 2011. Authorities accuse white of killing Brian Lee Daniels, Dustin Knighton and Lisa Hwang on Octonia Road following a botched home invasion and robbery.

Tuesday morning, lawyers argued to judge Daniel Bouton a number of motions, mostly relating to what kinds of evidence should be allowed in the trial.

Bouton allowed the defense some additional funds to compensate an expert witness, and he said he'd allow prosecutors to present records from electronic communications devices as evidence.

There are still many other motions that need to be discussed before the trial can move forward, so lawyers will be back in the courtroom to argue further on Friday.

Among the topics expected to be discussed Friday include the possible role in White's case of a former Greene County animal control officer. James Shifflett has admitted taking $19,000 from an evidence room at the county sheriff's office over a two-and-a-half year span from 2009 to 2011.

Defense attorneys have expressed concern that Shifflett may have tampered with evidence in their client's case.

Bouton is also expected to hear arguments about the credibility of potential witnesses in the trial.

White's three-week trial is scheduled to begin Sept. 24.
