There was a big scare for some Monticello Avenue residents Wednesday afternoon, this after the driver of a pick-up truck ran up on the sidewalk and then plowed into oncoming traffic.
"I heard a very loud boom, it shook the house," said Sonya Orum, who called 911.
Orum rushed to her front door after hearing the loud noise, and was shocked by what she saw.
"I saw a collision out here, a really, very devastating one," Orum continued.
Witnesses say a truck swerved in and out of traffic a few times before hitting one car head-on and slamming into four others.
"All of a sudden in front of me a man in a purple truck crossed the yellow line and hit this lady head on, and they both were spinning out of control," said Jackie Cookenour.
"He came around a green explorer and a yellow neon and almost hit the light post through the intersection, swerved back into his lane, [went back up on the sidewalk,] cut back in between in front of the neon and hit this lady head on," explained Holly Martin.
Officials cut two people out of their vehicles, including the driver of the truck.
Both of them were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. No one knows exactly what caused the accident, but those involved say it could have been much worse.
"He hit me in the side, and I'm fine, thank the Lord," said Cookenour.
Police say the driver of the pick-up is expected to face charges.
