Orange County Officials are searching for answers in an overnight shooting that left one woman dead. It happened just after midnight on the 400 block of Cadmus Drive in Gordonsville.

"I think the first thing that goes through your head is no this can't be," said Mike Howard, the victim's brother.

Mike Howard is still in shock over the news of his sister’s murder. Twenty-two-year-old Kathryn Danielle Howard was found shot to death along Cadmus Drive just after midnight. Neighbors say they heard three to four shots. When they looked outside they spotted Howard's Blue Saab parked on the road. Her body was lying on the ground beside it and her purse was still inside.

"We've put some theories together, it may have been someone she knew, [maybe she] got out to talk, we don’t know," said Orange County Sheriff C.G. Feldman.

Authorities believe the incident may have started somewhere else before ending on Cadmus Drive. Her brother says he's not sure why she was there but says he's certain she did nothing wrong.

"She was very innocent, she's a very sweet person, she didn't cause harm to anybody, she wouldn't have harmed anybody, I know that," said Howard.

Authorities are questioning Howard's friends and family hoping for leads. But in the meantime, those she left behind are struggling to cope with their loss.

"My mom is not taking it very well, she's already holding Danielle's sweaters, she's really sad and no one can believe that we're never going to see her again," said Howard.

If you think you may have seen something suspicious last night or know anything, please call the Orange County Sheriffs Office at 540-672-1200.
