The Whisper Ridge behavioral health facility that is under fire for alleged physical and sexual abuse is fighting back. Earlier this week, the State Department of Health gave them 10 days to come up with an action plan or have their license revoked.
The state slapped them with 50 citations in all. Some of the abuse involved employee-patient relationships and now the facility has outlined how they plan to keep these problems from happening again.
In a 36-page report released by Whisper Ridge Friday, they agreed to impose stricter policies that include retraining nurses in giving medication and emergency response protocol. Security cameras and random room searches are also being considered. Many patients were complaining about the poor heating system so they're working on replacing that. Whisper Ridge plans to make these changes by March 18.
In the meantime, Charlottesville police are investigating some incidents of rape between a staff member and a patient. So far, no arrests have been made. The facility remains open.
Whisper Ridge is a 58-bed facility that treats teenagers between the ages of 13 and 17.
