The Charlottesville Newsplex has learned that several locations were without power around the City of Charlottesville.
A spokesperson with the City of Charlottesville says several transformers had exploded.
There were about 1,700 people without power along with some businesses.
There were a few intersections with traffic lights not working, but electrical crews with the Department of Public Works worked on them. Officials recommend avoiding Cherry Avenue and Harris Street in particular.
Officials also want to remind drivers, that if traffic lights are out at an intersection, it automatically becomes a 4-way stop.
