Man Charged with Dog Fighting, Animal Cruelty in Fluvanna Co.

39-year-old Brenton Lemont Mathis of Palmyra is charged with 8 felony count of fighting animals (dogs) for sport, 8 misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty, and one felony count of possessing firearm after being convicted of a violent felony.

An arrest has been made in a case of animal cruelty in Fluvanna County.

Officials say 39-year-old Brenton Lemont Mathis of Palmyra, was arrested without incident. He is charged with 8 felony count of fighting animals (dogs) for sport, 8 misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty, and one felony count of possessing firearm after being convicted of a violent felony.

Mathis is being held without bond and has been transported to the Central Virginia Regional Jail.

His next hearing is set for Jan. 28 in Fluvanna County General District Court.
