A Madison County man accused of shooting his neighbor was denied bond Tuesday morning.

James Winstead, 64-year-old, is charged with aggravated malicious wounding for allegedly shooting 24-year-old Elizabeth Woodward in the face and upper body.

"He was denied bond, so he will be incarcerated in the Central Virginia Regional Jail, until April 4, 2006 for a preliminary hearing to see what will be certified to a grand jury in the circuit court sometime in May," said Sheriff Erik Weaver of Madison County.

Winstead could be sentenced to 20 years, or up to life in prison if convicted.
