Some Albemarle County students got an inside look at law-making. It was part of their model Congress class.

The two-day event took place at UVA. Students wrote there own bills and held several committee sessions. Then they had to debate and vote on the issues just like in real-life.

Western Albemarle High School teacher Melisa Larson says it was a perfect way for students to see just what it takes to be a law-maker.

"Many of these students wrote about issues that they took a personal interest in. So it's that opportunity to do that high level research, and then be able to defend your position in front of an audience, which is wonderful," said Larson.

The seniors participating were from Monticello and Western Albemarle high schools.
