The town of Scottsville may soon be home to a new memorial.
Monday night, the town council is expected to approve a veteran’s monument, next to Dorrier Park. The six foot tall memorial stone will have the seals of all the services engraved into it and a flagpole by its side, which will be lit up 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The town along with the local American Legion and VFW posts thought of the idea.
"We have a lot of people in the area, a lot of veterans who have served and we wanted to honor them at some point. We don't have a memorial in town right now, so that's something we wanted to do for them," said Mayor R. Stephen Phipps of Scottsville.
Mayor Phipps hopes to have the memorial in place by the summer and also hold a dedication ceremony.
Money for the monument is being raised through businesses and private donations. The goal is $9,000.
