Some of Charles Shifflett's accusers held a rally at a Culpeper park to offer support of abused children and urge them to come forward. Shifflett's own brother showed his support for victims of abuse.

"There's a word that we use today often, and it's a word that we should never have to use with a child and it's the word victim," said Pastor Josh Shifflett.

Charles Shifflett's brother, Josh Shifflett, preached to a somber audience who gathered at a Culpeper park, to support abused children.

"Predators take on such different costumes. The one that should be the person instructing a child, the one that should be leading a child, is the one that's actually the one that's victimizing our children," said Josh Shifflett.

As supporters and alleged victims listen to words of encouragement, they are reminded why they came out on such a chilly, windy day.

"That's why I'm here today. I can't go back and change the past, but I sure can try to change the future," said Jimmy Rudd.

Rudd said he put this rally together not for himself, but for others who are thinking about coming forward.

"I just hope that with this rally, and more publicity, that more kids will step up," said Chad Robinson, an alleged victim.

Supporters said the rally was about much more than the Charles Shifflett case, they want to let victims know they're not alone.

"This is not about bitter feelings towards anybody, it's about our children and what they went through and what we can do to prevent that from happening again," said Rudd.

Rudd said he has a dream, a dream that children can live in a world without abuse, and this rally, he says, is first step toward making that happen.

Charles Shifflett's attorney did not return our phone calls. In Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, Shifflett's preliminary hearing was continued until June 14, 2006.
