Drivers will soon have another way to move through the Downtown Mall, at least temporarily.
City council members voted last night to open up 4th Street to traffic going southbound, for one year. During that time the city will collect data to study exactly how successful the crossing was for traffic flow and downtown businesses on the east end.
"The goal of this opening is number one, it's temporary to see if it'll work. To see if it actually helps solve some of the problems and make them all better than what it is now," said city councilman, Blake Caravati.
City officials hope to have 4th Street opened by May 1.
