A special ceremony Tuesday for Virginia Department of Transportation workers killed on the job.

VDOT officials and family members gathered at the VDOT workers Memorial along I-64 in remembrance. Seven new names of state highway workers who died were added to the memorial. Loved ones say it helps to know people care.

"For them, you know, to be honored this way, to at least have something to say that at least, hey, they put in their work," said Holly Hamilton, whose brother's name was added to the memorial.

A total of 131 names currently make up the monument. The event was also a part of VDOT's Work Zone Awareness Week.
