Family of Charlottesville Homicide Victim Speaks Out

May 11, 2014

Charlottesville Police released the name of the victim of the city’s first homicide this year. Charlottesville resident Antonio Lamar Washington, 30, died on Saturday morning after being involved in a dispute at the Alhamraa restaurant in the IX building.

Family of Washington says he was a loving friend who would do anything for anybody.

“I just miss him so much, there are no words to describe how he was, and he was just awesome,” says Gregory Watson, father of Washington.

He says that Washington did have a troubled past, but he was turning his life around, preparing to be a father, and just last week he gave his life over to god during a church service.

“I'm a deacon at my church and I've just been praying for Tony,” says Watson. “I talk to him about the lord and when I found out he got saved I feel like a brand new person, because he's already in good hands and that's all I can ask for. He went all the way.”

According to family members Washington got in an argument with another man on Friday night and was later stabbed with a knife.

Police have been tight-lipped about the investigation and are still looking for a suspect.

Washington's aunt believes people in the community know what happened on Friday night. She's asking them to step up and say something.

“It just breaks my heart because my sister lost her only son,” says Martina Payne. “His daddy lost his oldest son, his first born child.”

“It breaks my heart, because his true friends and I'm getting responses, where are you when we need you to come forward? Somebody had to see something. You can't be a building with security in a party, see my nephew was 6’2”. Somebody had to have seen something.”

She says they are seeking answers as to what led to the death of her nephew Tony, a son, brother and soon to be father.
