The Albemarle County Board of Supervisors have rejected the proposed Ruckersville Parkway.
It was part of the Places29 Master Plan that would add a 16 mile roadway starting near the north grounds of the University of Virginia.
Board members said they voted unanimously to take the parkway off the county's plan, partly because it is too expensive for a secondary road.
"We don't feel that it would help with the through traffic. It goes through a lot of neighborhoods and would disrupt a lot of people and we just don't think it's an option that we want to look at at this point," said Ken Boyd, a member of the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors.
Next week consultants will take a look at other alternatives.
