The driver of a U-Haul truck that caused a multi-car crash along Interstate 81 on Saturday is facing a DUI charge.

Virginia State Police say the accident happened just after 2:30 p.m. Saturday near mile marker 230 in Augusta County.

A U-Haul rental truck driven by 57-year-old Kevin Baer of Moneta struck a GMC Sierra, which overturned onto its roof. The U-Haul also hit a Toyota Camry.

Traffic was backed up in the southbound lanes after the crash.

Baer was flown to the University of Virginia Medical Center with serious injuries. He's been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

The driver of the Sierra was treated and released from the hospital with minor injuries, but the passenger was also flown to the UVa. Medical Center with serious injuries. Both people in that car were wearing seatbelts.

The driver of the Camry was not hurt.

State police say the crash remains under investigation.
