Victims’ rights were the topic of an award's luncheon attended by various law enforcement officials today.
It was held at the Omni hotel. Attorney General Robert McDonnell and U.S. Attorney John Brownlee were among the speakers. The two spoke on the importance of victims rights and said more needs to be done to protect them.
"Our constitutional system is set up to protect the accused and that's completely right, but we also need to remember that the victims of crimes and their families need protection as well," said U.S. Attorney John Brownlee.
The luncheon was held as part of National Crime Victims Rights week.
