Heading into the last weekend before the city of Charlottesville holds its primary election, candidates are pushing hard to connect with voters. Here is the profile of Democrat Dave Norris.
Norris has been a part of Charlottesville for eleven years.
He's worked with many in the non-profit sector, but is probably known for running the city's homeless shelter with help from local churches.
"I think all those experiences in terms of taking on leadership roles, and really helping to foster positive change in a variety of areas has prepared me very well, for the challenges ahead of the whole city. In terms of what I can do on city council," said Dave Norris.
Norris feels the city should have better options when it comes to education, affordable housing, and the environment. To Norris, those topics speak volumes.
"Just down the line. All these issues really speak to me, and speak to a lot of residents in terms of what kind of community are we building, and what kind of community are we leaving to our children," added Norris.
Friday morning, Norris showed proof of his campaign ideas.
The candidate read to kids at Venable Elementary School as he has throughout the school year.
He talked with residents at the Crescent Halls high-rise.
He also met with a member of the Sierra Club. The organization for a better environment handed Dave Norris an endorsement.
"The things that have attracted us to supporting Dave include his opposition to building the Meadow Creek Parkway, his commitment to green building design which is very important in this area--certainly a place like Charlottesville," said Tom Olivier of Sierra Club-Piedmont.
Norris hopes the endorsement will help voters give him a home inside City Council chambers.
