UVa Record Number of First-Years Expected to Boom Businesses

"First of all i just want to say welcome to everybody, i can not wait for all the kids to come back because they do keep me young," said Anja Andelic, owner of Fig Bistro and Bar.

That was the general sentiment among all business owners on The Corner where UVa students flock to during the school year.

All their favorite UVa apparel stores, restaurants and bars all excited to have them back.

But with the record number of first-years set to move to grounds, business owners have high expectations.

"My business will just explode," said Andelic.

and for parents bringing their first year students to grounds they help these business do just that.

for this 1983 uva grad, who has a son starting his first year, he said the numbers dont surprise him.

"they decided to increase the number of students drastically since i went here back in the old days, so obviously they're doing something right."

Even a group of returning students were excited about the big numbers.

"I think it's awesome man, we're growing, as long as we can house them all and have the good experience, that's really good."

and of course a first year himself despite typical fears of starting college.

"i guess a big first year class is good, even though i wont get to know everyone in my class which i think is kind of daunting."
