An Albemarle County man is recovering after being attacked by three dogs, and his neighbors say it was an attack they saw coming.

"Right in there. Right on my floor in the front door. He was there, you know, until the rescue squad came and got him," said Virginia Johnson who called 911 when it happened.

The floor is where 74-year-old Tony Harris fell after being bitten by three dogs. The dog attack happened last week while he was cutting a neighbor's lawn. Neighbors saw the dogs, mixed with pit bull and boxer breeds, first bite the tires on the lawn mower. Then, bite Harris.

"They tried to get them off. All three of [the neighbors] tried keep him away from me, but they couldn't do it," said Harris.

The dogs never bit anyone before. But, they were known for biting tires. In fact, we're told the same dogs are blamed for deflating tires on three cars and one lawn mower. Neighbors say that an attack was bound to happen.

"It's just that they would chase cars. I would see them chase Tony and Shirley's car half-way up the road," added Johnson.

Harris, a grand-father of four, is in the hospital because of an infection around the bites on both legs. He's on medication, and says he is feeling better.

"I was a little nervous at the time, and worried about my heart, too. I was a having chest pains when I fell into the house," added Harris.

The worry was always there for his wife and others with children. Knowing not all dogs are bad, she says when it came to these three.

"We were always happy to see a car hit one. That's a bad thing to say, but it's true," said Shirley Harris, the wife of Tony Harris.

While a car did not take these dogs out of her neighborhood, animal control did, and they will be put down once testing is finished at the health department.

The Charlottesville Newsplex got a call from the Harris family since running the story at 6:00 p.m., and they say the dog owner assured the over the phone that he will take care of everything from medical bills to work compensation.
