Thirty-nine local teachers were honored today with the prestigious Golden Apple Award. Those 39 teachers were given the award to honor excellence in teaching. All of the teachers were from Charlottesville City, Albemarle County and area private schools. Those honored say it was a thrill to be involved.
"It's an acknowledgment of all of the things that myself and many other teachers do behind closed doors that perhaps the kids see but it nice to know that the greater community recognizes what we have done as well," said Tandem Friends School award winner David Krovetz.
"It's a validation for the way you've chosen to spend your life's work, and I don't think there could me much sweeter than that," said Jacqueline Rice of the Blue Ridge School.
On top of the award, eight teachers also won $1,000 grants to further their professional developments. The grants and awards were provided by Better Living Incorporated.
