It's been close to three months since the body of Katherine Danielle Howard was found lying next to her car in Orange County.
While the sheriff's office continues its investigation, Howard's family and friends are continuing their fight for justice.
"Oh, man! Besides the grieving period, and taking care of Mom, just coming up with this idea just over a month ago,” said Michael Howard, the brother of Katherine Danielle Howard.
The brother of 22-year-old Katherine Danielle Howard reveals what he's been doing since his sister was found dead in February 2006.
With food, face-painting, and music, Michael Howard's event looks like an ordinary picnic. He says it's more than that. It's a special way to increase the reward for someone to bring an end to his sister's murder investigation.
“Our goal is to reach $10,000 for the reward, and then after that we are going to go from there, to continue the foundation to help other families,” added Howard.
Those close to Katherine Howard seem to be doing well despite not having her around.
“We're all really close. We all support each other. It means a lot to me to keep this alive, to keep people on the same page with us because we are definitely not going to forget about it,” said Dana French, a family supporter at the event.
Sheriff's deputies have found the van belonging to Katherine Howard. They've sent it to a lab for testing. On Friday, the Orange County Sheriff said some results were returned, but he was not willing to give details.
Regardless, the Howard family is glad to know everyone is supporting their cause.
“It's great! A lot of these people you don't even know, or if you do know them, you don't know them that well. You know that they would come out help Danielle this way, and help the community remember Danielle. I mean, I can't say enough for it,” added Howard.
The reward fundraiser was open to everyone, but if you were not able to attend, there is still a way to donate money. Call the Howard reward line at (804) 677-8177.
