A new theater is in store for UVA's drama department. It's all thanks to a $4 million donation by Mortimer and Ruth Sacks Caplin. Mr. Caplin is an alumnus of UVA and the founding partner of the Washington law firm Caplin and Drysdale.
The money will fund a 300-seat thrust-stage theater which means it will extend into the audience on three sides.
"To the community itself we hope that this becomes a magnet to which community members will be drawn," said Tom Bloom, Chair of UVA's Department of Drama.
If the board of visitors approves the theater, it will be named in honor of Ruth Caplin.
