Mars Incorporated is playing a sweet role in preserving a part of history. Mars, the makers of M&M's, awarded Piedmont Environmental Council with a $100,000 donation.
The PEC works to preserve historic Montalto, that overlooks Thomas Jefferson's Monticello. Officials said the money will be used to maintain the historic feel.
"That will help us preserve this property and perpetuity by putting conservation easements on it," said Dan Jordan, the Director of Monticello.
Monticello is only one of 5 places that sell American Heritage Chocolate. Developed by Mars Incorporated, it looks and tastes like chocolate that the earliest Americans enjoyed.
