The investigation into last year's murder of a Culpeper County woman is still moving forward, and officials may have just gotten a little bit closer thanks to their counterparts in Richmond.

"We are pleased with the directions that the investigation is taking, and are very confident that we will be able to bring this to a conclusion," said Deputy Sheriff Jim Branch of the Culpeper County Sheriff's Department.

The Culpeper County Sheriff's Office is one-step closer to their goal.

Prosecutors in another murder case have linked one of their suspects to Culpeper County's only murder of 2005. This is welcomed news for those investigating the death of 37-year-old Sheryl Warner.

"We will deal with, and work with any agency anywhere, regardless of jurisdiction to bring this case to a close," added Deputy Sheriff Branch.

Investigators have been doing so since Warner was found shot to death, and strangled by an electrical cord, inside her burning Culpeper County home last December.

They've been holding weekly meetings to talk about new leads, and other developments in the case.

"It's a very heinous case. Anytime, you look at the death of a citizen in our community, it impacts the whole community," said Deputy Sheriff Branch.

The impact now stretches into the city of Richmond.

Officials there link Ricky Jevon Gray, currently accused for the new year's day murders of a Richmond family, to the murder of Warner. The link does not change the way police are handling the case.

"The investigation continues, and I think our investigators will keep an open mind as to the leads that are being followed," added Deputy Sheriff Branch.

The Culpeper County sheriff is asking for anyone who has any more information on the Sheryl Warner murder to give them a call at (540) 727-0300.
