Hair Cut for Cancer

July 13, 2006
A Doctor of Pathology from Martha Jefferson Hospital is focusing on hair now.

Dr. Laura Spinelli has been chosen as Virginia's Ambassador for Pantene's Beautiful Lengths program. It encourages people to grow, cut and donate their hair to create wigs for women who have lost their hair because of chemotherapy. Dr. Spinelli did just that on Thursday.

"I think it is empowering to cancer patients that there are people across the country who care about them who don't even know them. I think that that would be meaningful to them," Dr. Spinelli explained.

A recent study shows most women consider hair loss to be the most dreaded side effect of chemotherapy.
