Google's CEO Endorses Obama at the UVA Law School

October 30, 2008

The CEO of Google stopped by the UVA Law School Thursday morning to campaign for Barack Obama.

Eric Schmidt discussed Obama's plans to provide tax relief to businesses.

Google's CEO also spoke about Obama's innovative use of technology throughout his campaign, saying we need a president who understands the need for technological growth.

The Virginia native fielded questions from dozens of law students--one asked why some have misconstrued Obama's message as socialist.

"All of a sudden all eyes are on Virginia. I love Virginia and I think we're the right combination of this wonderful culture and real technology opportunity. If you look, Virginia has huge technological assets. Not just in the northern part but in the rest of the state," said Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google. "There's no reason not to believe that Virginia could be a leader in technology for years to come."

Schmidt has been the CEO at Google for seven years. The company has been rated Fortune Magazine's best place to work, although right now Google's stock has been trading lower for the past month.
