A Charlottesville man is shot in the abdomen outside his apartment complex, and police are still looking for the assailant.

Charlottesville Police received a call around 9:30 Thursday night for a shooting in the 700 block of Prospect Avenue.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found a 44 year old Charlottesville man with a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. Police say he lived in the Blue Ridge Commons apartment building, and was shot outside a laundromat in the complex. No one else was hurt in the shooting.

The victim was rushed to an area hospital where, at last check, he was listed in stable condition.

Police say the man's assailant is still on the loose. They describe him as a black male between 18 and 25 years old, wearing a light colored jacket, blue jeans and a dark colored scarf.

They say that detailed suspect description is due in large part to the overwhelming cooperation of residents at the apartments. They say two eyewitnesses saw the whole thing, even helping investigators to re-create the shooting as part of their investigation.

As authorities continue their search for the suspect, they say anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at (434) 977-4000.
