Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a motel shooting.
A man was shot shortly before noon on Monday at the Red Carpet Inn along Route 29.
Police say the victim, 22-year-old Josh Toney, was shot in the leg. He was taken to the hospital and released Monday afternoon.
The suspect is his girlfriend, 18-year-old Keauna Brown.
Her parents say the couple checked into the motel Sunday night.
Police believe the shooting stemmed from an argument that turned physical. Earlier Monday however, police thought they were looking for someone else.
"We got a description of a black male who had shot this victim, [who] fled on foot," said Sgt. Tim Aylor of the Albemarle County Police Department.
Canines combed the area for weapons and a suspect, while police searched the rooftop. Meanwhile , Brown remained at the scene.
As investigators continued to question her, they say they realized she was their suspect all along. Now authorities are hoping further investigation will reveal more.
"We're searching for evidence. We're also interviewing all witnesses that may have seen something," said Aylor.
Police found a small handgun at the scene. Brown has been charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm.
The shooting comes just one month after a man robbed a clerk at the same motel.
