An archaeological dig is about to take place in Charlottesville. On Tuesday crews will dig two trenches on the original site of the Old Jefferson Graded School - located in front of Jefferson School along 4th street.
They will be looking for foundation from the grade school or soil. Officials are trying to amend the national historic designation of the site from 1926 to 1894.
"It tells another part of the story from the education system of colored children in Charlottesville, which hasn't been told today in its entirety," said Charlottesville assistant city manager, Rochelle Small-Toney.
The digging is set to start around 8 a.m. Tuesday, although this time might change due to the heat. Crews are hoping to complete the excavation in one day.
