For the first time ever--Charlottesville is opening the basketball court to adult males. There are many different skill levels, but everyone is invited to join a team.
You're not going to be playing against the world's best players, nor will you play against members of the Cavalier basketball team. Anyone can play and it is an open league. So far on the men's side they've had one team sign-up.
"Most guys still like to compete, win or lose. They like to get exercise, commrodery with their friends in a fun atmosphere," said Bernie Garrison of Charlottesville Parks & Rec.
If you're interested in signing-up, they are aiming for two leagues: a men's open league 18 and up and if there is enough interest, a men's 35 and older league. You can register at the Charlottesville Recreational Office through September 15th.
As for the season, there are eight teams for a seven season game. The top half will advance to the playoffs with awards going to the first and second place teams.
They had a women's team a few years ago and are hoping to get enough interest to get a new one started again.
The city also hosts adult softball and volleyball.
