Police say crime is a profession that is always changing, but now criminals are putting their stamp on something new.

The trailer looks simple. It looks plain. You would not think there was anything valuable inside, but there must be to someone.

"We received a phone call from the Locust Dale Post Office, and they informed us that they had been broken into over the weekend," said Madison County Sheriff's Office Investigator Shawn Hill.

Police believe the date of the actual break-in is August 19, 2006. Investigators are not sure why the post office was broken into, but know it is on the list of priorities with the postal inspectors office.

"They also believed it may linked to another break-in that they had that same weekend," added Hill.

There were two post office break-ins in one weekend. This one in Madison County and another in Nelson County. The United States Postal Inspector's Office has no idea why.

"It's hard to tell. Normally, in property crimes, people break-in to take you know, some items of value," said U.S. Postal Inspector M.J. Romano.

Romano said there was damage to both post offices. Perhaps, from gaining unlawful entry.

"Maintenance had to come and respond to repair windows, and repair doors in those facilities," added Romano.

The criminals also managed to ransack several pieces of mail inside the Nelson County post office,.

"We believe we have located the content to those, and letters have been sent out," added Romano.

Leaving no concern for residents of Madison and Nelson counties, but lots of worry for those who broke into the post offices. If caught, the criminal will face a felony charge of breaking and entering.

Investigators say they are looking at quite a bit of evidence in the two break-ins, and hope they will be able to make an arrest soon.
