The clock on tax season continues to wind down. But, for many people they're still racing to get their forms ready to go. The bad news for procrastinators is that if you do wait until Wednesday evening after 5 to mail your taxes you will have to drive to Richmond to get that all important April 15, 2009 post mark.
The United States Postal Service says the only post office in the region they will keep open late for customers is the main post office in Richmond. The retail counter there will stay open until 7 p.m. on Wednesday. If you don’t need to buy postage you can drop your taxes off there until midnight. The main Richmond post office is located at 1801 Brook Road.
If you need help getting your taxes done it’s not too late. Several agencies around Charlottesville are still offering free tax help through Wednesday. They include the Monticello Area Community Action Agency, Urban Vision, The University of Virginia Human Resources Department, and The United Way.
Were the tax forms easier or harder this year for you? We welcome your comments.

You will only need to drive to Richmond if you deposit your tax return after 5 pm. Up until then you can go to the Charlottesville Post Office or deposit in the blue collection boxes.
