Some Albemarle County employees may be getting a pay raise. The board of supervisors agreed to set a living wage for county employees last night.
Following the University of Virginia’s lead...county employees will receive upwards of $9.75 per hour come next year.
“Living wage more or less means below that level you are in poverty and I don't think it is good to be paying full time employees a wage that puts them in poverty and I think the rest of the board felt the same way,” said Albemarle County Supervisor David Slutsky.
The county's current living wage is $8.84.
Slutsky said the county also agreed to meet with University and Charlottesville officials to determine a uniform living wage and pay increase so all area government employees can be paid equally.
